1298326 Catalysts FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 20 Feb 1970 [27 Feb 1969] 8181/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] Catalyst compositions comprising a supported palladium catalyst comprising an alkali metal acetate are used for the preparation of 2-methylene-1,3-diacetoxy propane from methallyl acetate, acetic acid and oxygen. The palladium may be as metal or as compounds such as palladium acetate, benzoate, propionate, acetyl acetonate, hydroxide, bis-(diphenyl-propane-1,3-dionate or acetyl phenolate on conventional supports such as silica, silicates, active carbon, aluminium oxide, spinels, pumice and titanium dioxide. Alkali metal compounds which convert to acetates under reaction conditions may be used. Additional metals or metal compounds may be present. Gold, platinum, iridium, ruthenium, rhodium, iron, manganese, chromium, tungsten and molybdenum are mentioned. Conventional methods of preparation may be used and an example describes the impregnation of silica spheres (5 mm) with palladium acetyl acetonate and iron acetyl acetonate followed by potassium acetate which after heat treatment at 115‹C is used as a solid catalyst for the gaseous reaction. |
