1276650 Portable bridges; bridge-laying DR-ING hcF PORSCHE KG 31 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 37085/70 Heading E1G Apparatus for transporting and assembling a bridge comprises two parallel and telescopically extensible booms 5, 6 each mounted in telescoping relation with a corresponding side member 7, 8 of a carrying frame 4 which carries the bridge elements 24, 25, 26, the carrying frame being mounted on a vehicle 3 and adapted to be buffed by piston-andcylinder jacks 22, and the arrangement being such that, on arrival at the edge of the gap to be bridged, the booms can be extruded by a winch 18, after which the booms are lowered by the jacks 22 so that the booms rest on the far edge of the gap to be bridged, a further winch 17 then being operated to move the bridge elements out along the booms, supported by rollers 29, to the desired bridging position, whereupon the end elements 25, 26 of the bridge assembly are unfolded and locked in place, the booms finally being withdrawn to leave the bridge in position (Fig. 2, not shown). The lateral spacing of the booms is maintained by cross members 11, 11', 11", one for each telescoping section of the booms. The outermost cross members 11" may include flanges 12 to which a leg structure 13 (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) may be attached so that the boom may be supported at an intermediate point over the gap to be bridged, the legs being transferred to the bridge elements when these have been assembled in position so as to produce a bridge span, the bridge then being completed by a further span or spans provided by a further bridge-laying vehicle of the same kind which is run over the first span to a position adjacent the leg structure so that its booms can be extended to complete the bridge or provide the next span. |
