PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slide testing method and machine capable of accurate evaluation of a seizure surface pressure, and of evaluation of conformability and abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: In this slide testing method and machine for rotating a cylindrical test piece 12 sandwiched between V blocks 3, detecting the sandwiched load and the frictional force between the test piece 12 and the V block 3 (at 8, 9), and evaluating the slide performance of the test piece 12, the V block 3 and a lubricating oil, a contact area between the test piece 12 and the V block 3 is computed according to progressions of abrasion to the test piece 12 and the V block 3 (at 27), and the slide performance is evaluated on the basis of the contact area computed.
