<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out a control to restart the display of the animation image with the scene different from the scene as given when the display screen is temporarily stopped, after the temporary stoppage of the display screen on the image display means without an increase in the memory capacity. <P>SOLUTION: The image data as given when the display screen on the variable display device is stopped temporarily exist in a frame buffer at the moment. The data of the image (B) for effect previously stored in the character ROM and the image data stored in the VRAM undergo a given arithmetic operation to generate an image data for the effect screen.
