1,263,949. Hypodermic syringes. CENTURY DISPOSABLE DEVICES Inc. 2 May, 1969 [28 May, 1968], No. 22567/69. Heading ASR. A syringe consists of two telescoping vials, 1, 20, the inner 20 having a neck 23 sealed by a disc 26 with a slit (40) or with holes 27 off set from the passage 21, and the rearward end 22 sealed by a piston plug 30, and the outer vial having at its forward end 4 a sealing rubber disc 5 and a double ended needle 15 arranged in a flexible hub 13 so that it can pierce the disc 5, when a backward force is applied to the needle, a stopper 24 being mounted on the neck 23 of the inner vial 20, closing the outer vial. An actuator 32 is threaded to the piston plug 30, for operating the syringe. Both vials 1, 20 and the actuator 32 have outward flanges 10, 28 (34) for use as finger grips. In use the actuator on the piston plug 30 is pushed down, forcing a liquid in the inner vial through the holes 27 or the slit (40) into the chamber 2 where the liquid and a medicament mix. On collapsing the hub 13 as the needle 15 is inserted in the patient, the needle 15 punctures the closure 5. The inner vial 20 and actuator 32 discharge the contents from vial 1. The needle may be mounted alternatively on a spring within a hub. The actuator 32 may be used to protect the needle before use. |
