The labels (1) are applied to the prod. (P), marked with code accessible to the public. The self adhesive labels are individually stored on a ribbon type support (15). Information is read continuously, in real time, from the product, decoded and treated, for transmission (17) to a printer (5). Printing is continuous, in real time, onto the label, which is then applied to the product. The decoding and treatment of prod. information to render it accessible to the public may be by means of a central processing unit, memorising the data and passing it to the printer. The information reader may be an optical reader, or scanner. The label support band may be under tension and transferred by rollers (16) between first (A) and second (B) positions.
