PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material which enables the achievement of a high capacity and superior cycle characteristics.SOLUTION: An active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte battery according to an embodiment comprises: a complex including at least a carbonaceous material and silicon-containing particles dispersed in the carbonaceous material. The silicon-containing particles include at least one of silicon, a silicon alloy and a silicon oxide. In argon ion laser Raman spectra, the half value width(ΔG) of a peak having a maximum intensity I1 in a range of 1575-1625 cmis 100-150 cm. The intensity ratio (I2/I1) of a peak having a maximum intensity I2 in the vicinity of 525 cmin a range of 500-550 cmto the peak having the maximum intensity I1 in the range of 1575-1625 cmis 0.25-0.50.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
