PURPOSE:To enable printing wider than the moving stroke of a printing head, by operating each printing element in inherent timing difference corresponding to the relative movement of the printing head and printing paper in a line or row direction. CONSTITUTION:When printing is performed by moving a printing head from the left of paper to the right thereof in a line direction, the dot pattern of a character is read from left in a row direction and the read dot pattern is applied to first and second printing elements in timing delays of 0 and 1 dots and to a n-th printing element in timing layer of n-1 dot. When the printing head is moved up and down in a row direction or the printing head is fixed and the paper is moved in an up-and-down direction to perform printing in such a state that right is directed upwardly, the read dot pattern is applied to first and second printing elements in timing layers of n-1 dot and n-2 dot and to the n-th printing element in timing relay of 0. When a vertical writing character is printed, the dot pattern is read from a top right-hand part to a bottom lefthand part in a line direction and may be imparted to the printing element of the printing head. |
