The present invention relates to a process and to a device for producing a design in one or more colours on a leather article. According to this process, the outline 6 of the design to be produced is printed in low relief on a leather article 1, for example by pressing on a printing plate 9 including this outline 7 in relief, and then successively applying to the surface delimited by the outline 6 one or a number of colours, for example three different colours, at 5a, 5b and 5c by means of silk-screen process mouldings, use being made of dye (stain) solutions which are capable of colouring the leather to a depth. <IMAGE>
