The positioning system for an aircraft control surface employs a series of operating elements, which can be operated independently in response to applied electrical signals. These elements are coupled in series with an electrical command element corresponding to each and also a position monitoring element providing a signal representing the actual position of each element. A cct. for detecting a dive receives the signals representing the actual positions of the operating elements and a signal representing the aircraft speed, to provide an alarm signal if a given threshold is sxceeded.
