PURPOSE: To obtain a surface-treated hydrophobic film on which images with very fine lines and with high density and fastness can be formed by ink jet printing using a water-base ink by treating a hydrophobic surface of a substrate having a hydrophobic layer with a treating fluid contg. specific three compds. CONSTITUTION: A surface-treated hydrophobic film for ink jet printing is formed by coating a hydrophobic surface of a hydrophobic substrate with the following three compds.: at least one compd. selected from among a specific polyester resin, a specific (meth)acrylate polymer, a specific polyvinyl alcohol, etc.; a compd. such as represented by the formula (wherein R<5> is 7-20C alkyl; and n<3> is 8-16); and a compd. such as sodium p-toluenesulfonate, urea, or silicic acid. These compds. may be applied in the form of three water solns. or dispersions each contg. one compd. or in the form of a water soln. or dispersion contg. the three compds.
