PURPOSE:To obtain a pretreating agent for metal thermal spraying capable of improving the adhesive strength of sprayed deposit to a base material by incorporating specific amounts of zinc oxide whisker consisting of a nucleus part and an acicular crystal part spreading from the nucleus part in dissimilar axial directions to resin. CONSTITUTION:A metallic zinc powder having oxide film on the surface is subjected to heating treatment in an oxygen-containing atmosphere, by which a zinc oxide whisker consisting of a nucleus part and an acicular crystal part spreading from the nucleus part in dissimilar axial directions is formed. The above zinc oxide whiskers are incorporated by 5-35wt.% to thermoplastic acrylic resin, etc., so as to be formed into a pretreating agent for metal thermal spraying. By applying the above pretreating agent to the surface of a smooth base material 11, such as steel sheet, by proper amounts by means of air spraying, etc., a film 13 having complicated ruggedness and consisting of resin 14 and zinc oxide whiskers 15 can be obtained. A metallic sprayed deposit 12 formed on the above film 13 is allowed to infiltrate into the spaces among the zinc oxide whiskers 15 and is allowed to adhere to the base material 11 with high adhesive strength by means of its anchor effect. |
