SHORT OPTICAL PULSE TRANSMITTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain optical transmitter with a short pulse at a high bit rate by eliminating the effect of deterioration in waveform due to higher harmonic wavelength dispersion of a transmission optical fiber. SOLUTION: An optical pulse generated by a pulse light source 301 is coded by a signal generator 303 and an optical modulator 302, and sent to a transmission line as an optical signal pulse. In order to eliminate the effect of higher harmonic wavelength dispersion (dispersion slope) of transmission optical fibers 307-1-307-N, a compensation circuit (waveguide type dispersion slope compensation circuits 305-1-305-N) having a dispersion slope inverse to the dispersion slope are inserted to the transmission line. Thus, in the case of sending a high speed optical pulse (short optical pulse), deterioration in the pulse waveform due to effect of the higher harmonic wavelength dispersion is eliminated to realize the high speed optical pulse transmission.
