A portable wireless device where a first housing and a second housing are operated as a dipole antenna and there is no antenna section projecting from a housing, thereby high antenna performance can be achieved without spoiling portability of the device while maintaining characteristics of being small in size, thin, and light in weight. The portable wireless device has a first housing (1), a second housing (2), a slide means (21) for slidably connecting the first housing (1) and the second housing (2). The first housing (1) is disposed apart from the second housing (2) with a predetermined interval in between and has a power supply means (7) for electric power supply between the first housing (1) and the second housing (2). The first housing (1) and the second housing (2) are constructed to operate as a dipole antenna. Since there is no antenna section projecting from a housing, portability of the device is not spoiled. Further, although small in size, thin, and light in weight, the device can achieve high antenna performance.
