A sample book comprises a plurality of retaining rails (1, 2, 3, 4,5) which are combined, via in each case one spine wall (13), to provide a block and form a book spine. In order to receive a leaf-like carrier for samples, each retaining rail is provided with a receiving part (11, 12) which exhibits a slot (7) running over the length of a front wall. In order to configure the retaining rails, along with respectively adjacent retaining rails, such that they can be turned over with respect to one another through approximately 180@ in the manner of pages of a book, the spine wall (13) of the retaining rails exhibits a widening (19) which is connected, via a narrow, elastic articulation strip (20), to an articulation part (14, 15, 16) which fits into a groove in the spine wall of an adjacent retaining rail (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). <IMAGE>
