Detecting leaks from nuclear fuel rods immersed in a liq. such as water in either a nuclear reactor that has been turned off or in another region at least partially filled with liq. comprises: sucking up the liq. around the rods, sepg. the gases from the removed liq. and feeding the gases into a measuring device in order to analyse any gaseous fission prods. present.The gaseous fission prods. are delayed in the measuring device relative to the other gases by passing them through a material, to increase the concn. of these prods. in the device. The appts. for carrying out this method is also claimed, comprising a device for removing liq. around rods, gas sepn. unit and measuring device contg. delay unit through which the fission prods. are passed. These delay units are pref. filled with porous adsorbent material, esp. active carbon, and contain windows permeable to ionising and beta-radiation. |
