<p>An adhesive anaerobic composition contains a polyacrylate monomer, and hydroperoxide catalyst and at least 0.5% of a styrene-acrylic copolymer soluble in the monome and having a molecular weight of 2,000-40,000. Preferably a promotor containing an ethylene link with an adjacent polar group from carboxyl, anhydride, hydroxyl cyano, sec. amino and tert. amino is also present. Previous anaerobic compositions bonded threaded surfaces only. This composition produces bonds of tensile strength greater than 1000 psi between smooth steel su rfaces. The composition has a long shelf life in the presence of oxygen, but p olymerises rapidly in the absence of oxygen.</p> |
