This invention provides moisture stable tuftstring carpet assemblies. The pile surface structure comprises a moisture stable backing substrate (218) and a plurality of elongated pile articles (45 a-h) where each is comprised of an elongated, moisture stable support strand (32) having bonded thereto a plurality of "U" shaped bundles of multifilament yarn (46). The pile articles (45 a-h) are bonded to the backing substrate (218). Different backing substrates and support strands may be used.
