PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning type display device providing enhanced image quality by reducing speckle noise on a projection image, the scanning type display devices two-dimensionally scanning coherent light like a laser beam and displaying the image on a screen. SOLUTION: In the scanning type display device, a laser beam is split into first and second light fluxes, a polarization direction rotating means that rotates the polarization direction of the light flux is arranged on an optical path of the first light flux, a beam synthesizing means which performs re-synthesis with the second light flux is disposed and the synthesized light beam produced by superposing two light fluxes having different polarization directions by means of the beam synthesizing means is optically scanned to display the image.
