In a tire vulcanizer of a tire that has a bladder supported by upper and lower rings, a valved degassing passage is formed in the upper ring and is connected via a conduit ot a valve member which can connect to a pipe connected to a vacuum pump. The lower end of the pipe is surrounded by a spring biased valve member which engages when the pipe is in its lowermost position, the valve seat of the valve member which is mounted on the center post. The gas or vapour entrapped in the bladder before filling the bladder with water is efficiently vented through the valves when the rack is lowered. Existing machines can easily be converted.
