PURPOSE:To reduce friction between a magnetic recording medium and a magnetic head and to prevent sticking or damage by specifying materials to constitute the medium such that a protective lubricating film provided on a magnetic layer contains an alcohol having >=30 deg.C m.p., fatty acid and ester. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium 1 consists of a rigid substrate 2 as a supporting body, magnetic layer 4 of a continuous thin film type formed on the substrate, and a protective lubricating film 6 on the magnetic layer 4. The substrate 2 is preferably made of glass having partly or wholly reinforced surface, on which the magnetic layer 4 of a continuous thin film type essentially comprising iron oxide is provided. The protective lubricating film 6 formed on the magnetic layer 4 contains each one or more kinds of alcohol having >=30 deg.C m.p., fatty acid and ester. By adding the fatty acid, the coefft. of friction and changes in friction after duration of traveling becomes extremely small. The magnetic layer 4 is a perpendicular magnetization film. Recording and reproducing is performed in the magnetic recording medium 1 with a floating type magnetic head. |
