PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide information concerning the number of pages remaining in a marking material cartridge to a user and to predict a day when the cartridge is used up. SOLUTION: The area coverage of a specified page, the average area coverage of a job, and the average area coverage concerning a toner or ink cartridge up to now are transmitted to a remaining page number prediction circuit 13. The circuit 13 calculates the number of pages remaining in the toner or ink cartridge by using the total average area of the coverage up to now; the number of pages remaining in the toner or ink cartridge by using the average area coverage of a job described most recently; and the number of pages remaining in the toner or ink cartridge for the previously selected area coverage. |
