The stator has a set of slots and a three-phase stator winding that is composed of a set of U-shaped conductor segments (33). The segments have straight portions disposed in radial layers in the slots and connection portions project from slots to be welded. The connection portions are welded together to cross each other at their connections end (332d). AN Independent claim is included for a method of manufacturing a rotary electric machine stator.
