A rotor (14) of a dynamoelectric machine includes a coating (56) of a high-conductivity metal covering a substantial portion of the surface thereof. The high-conductivity metal reduces resistive heating produced by eddy currents from high-frequency harmonics of an AC power source. In one embodiment of the invention, surfaces of dovetail wedges (48) retaining energizing conductors (46) in longitudinal slots (44) are coated with a copper coating (56). Alternatively or in addition, the pole regions of the rotor may include undercut slots to regain chamfered wedges of magnetic material coated with a high-conductivity metal. Retaining rings at opposed ends of the rotor may also be coated with a high-conductivity metal.
|
