The suspension unit consists of a cylinder (3) containing a piston (4), and a pneumatic sphere (5) mounted on the cylinder. The piston incorporates a booster (7,8) which augments its effective area and increases the pressure of the gas inside the pneumatic sphere. The pressure booster comprises a mobile component (7) which engages with the piston towards the end of its stroke, and a member (8) with an effective pressure area greater than that of the piston. The piston is fitted coaxially inside the mobile component, which has a stop (10) to engage with the piston as it approaches the end of its stroke. The mobile component is located inside an enlarged portion of the suspension unit's cylinder.
