A rotor for an electrical machine comprises a bobbin (52), a winding (54), and two pole pieces (20, 40). The winding (54) comprises a wire wound around the outer surface (58) of the bobbin (52). At least one flat (64) on the outer surface (58) of the bobbin is imparted on the winding (54), mechanically locking the winding to the bobbin. The bobbin (52) is concentrically disposed over hubs (24, 42) on the two pole pieces (20, 46), the bobbin (52) and the hubs (24, 42) having complementary flats (60, 26, 44) which only allow assembly of the bobbin (52) and the hubs (24, 42) when the flats are aligned. A method for producing a rotor comprises providing a bobbin (52) with at least one flat (64) on its outer surface (58) and at least one flat (60) on its inner surface; winding wire around the outer surface (58) of the bobbin (52) to create a winding (54) with at least one flat in it; providing two pole pieces (20, 40) with hubs (24, 42) with complementary flats to the at least one flat on the inner surface (50) of the bobbin (52); aligning the flats on the hubs (24, 42) and on the inner surface (56) of the bobbin (52); and inserting the hubs (24, 42) into the bobbin.
|
