PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose a chlorinated organic compound with a low cost catalyst having durability against impurities by bringing a chlorinated organic compound-containing gas into contact with the catalyst containing vanadium oxide, tungsten oxide or the like in the presence of oxygen having a specific concentration at a specific temp.. SOLUTION: The gas containing the chlorinated organic compound such as 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzodioxin, which is an incineration waste gas of municipal refuse, is decomposed by bringing the gas into contact with the catalyst. In this case, the gas is brought into contact with the catalyst containing vanadium oxide, tungsten oxide and an oxide of an element selected from yttrium, boron or the like in the presence of oxygen of 0.5-25vol.% concentration at 100-350 deg.C. Thus, the harmful chlorinated organic compound such as the dioxin is removed by using the low cost catalyst having durability against the impurities. |
