omega -Isocyanatoalkyl (meth)acrylates of the formula (I)

in which A represents an alkylene radical, an oxaalkylene radical or a polyoxaalkylene radical each having 2 to 12 carbon atoms and R represents H or CH3, can be prepared in good yield by reaction of omega -aminoalkanols, omega -aminooxaalkanols or omega -aminopolyoxaalkanols containing 2 to 12 carbon atoms with urea and an alkanol, transesterification of the carbamic esters obtained with alkyl acrylates or methacrylates and thermolysis of the omega -alkoxycarbamoyl (meth)acrylates (I) and alkanols obtained in the transesterification.
