PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paper for newspaper causing neither print through nor reduction in paper strength even in being lightened, having excellent opacity and paper strength and economic efficiency. SOLUTION: This paper for newspaper comprises white carbon and calcium carbonate so as to have the ratio of SiO2 to CaO in an atomic absorption spectroscopy of ash at 550 deg.C defined by JIS P 8128 is 9:1-5:5.
