A catheter (1) for insertion into a body lumen having an interior wall, the catheter having an elongated member (2) with an end portion (3); a pair of spaced apart sealing members (7, 8) disposed along the end portion and capable of assuming a first state enabling insertion of the catheter into the body lumen and its withdrawal therefrom, and a second state for sealingly bearing against the interior wall for sealing off a portion of the body lumen; an inlet tube (12) having at least one inlet port (13) for introducing fluid into the sealed off portion; and an outlet tube (16) having at least one outlet port (17) for removing fluid from the sealed off portion.
