PURPOSE:To reduce the memory capacity by comparing the quantity of difference absolute sums and storing selectively a minimum value of the difference absolute sum of entire picture element accuracy and a difference absolute sums thereabout to a difference absolute sum storage memory based on the comparison output. CONSTITUTION:A difference absolute sum outputted from a full picture element accuracy difference absolute sum arithmetic circuit 200 for each clock cycle is fed to a comparator 203, in which a minimum value of the difference absolute sum is obtained. Thus, the comparator 203 obtains a motion vector of the full picture element accuracy up to a current point of time and the vector is fed to a memory control circuit 204. The circuit 204 selectively stores the difference absolute sum taking a minimum value and the difference absolute sums thereabout to a memory 201. Thus, a memory capacity is reduced more than an object block number. Furthermore, a half picture element accuracy computing element 202 calculates the motion vector of half picture element accuracy from the difference absolute sum stored in the memory 201 when the motion vector of the full picture element accuracy is confirmed. |
