A valve comprises a spherical plug 3, and sealing rings 6 each axially movable in a recess 20 in the valve body, and retained in position by a ring 8 clamped by a flange on the end of a conduit 10. The ring 6 has a face 17, acted upon by the pressure of the controlled fluid so as to force a contact face 16 on to the plug 3, a face 18 selectively exposed to a pressure fluid, e.g. the controlled fluid, when the plug is rotated, to force the ring off the plug, and a face 19 exposed to atmospheric pressure via a passage 14. Flow from the conduit 10 to the space adjacent the face 18 is controlled by a three-way valve, which alternatively connects the space 18 to atmosphere. |
