A process for the prodn. of pockets at the ends of lamellae in a flexible lamellae strip involves feeding a deformable plastic strip welding aid (6) from a storage roll (7) into the space between the lamellae surfaces to be welded and removing again after welding. The welding aid (6) is fed from the side adjacent to the lamellae pocket (5) and enters the partially open pocket at a right angle to the lamellae (4) axis. Also claimed is the appts. used which includes a feeding system (8) with transporting elements, in the form of membrane clamps (13, 14) for advancing the strip welding aid (6) and cutting off a prescribed length for a working cycle. The feed unit (8), initially alongside the lamellae (4) moves at a right angle to the lamellae axis until it overlaps the lamellae strip (4).
