PURPOSE:To drastically improve the utility of a back light for a liquid crystal display by spectrally splitting white-color light and irradiating respective three- color filter cells with it. CONSTITUTION:In a liquid crystal display device executing color display by periodically arranging the color filter cells R, G and B whose colors are different with respect to the adjacent liquid crystal cells and irradiating them with the back light (white color) 3 from the rear, a hologram 5 which does not have the wavelength dependency of diffracting efficiency or has a little is arranged on the incident side of the back light 3. The respective wavelength components of the back light for a color filter 3 are effectively made incident on the respective color cells R, G and B by making the wavelength components obtained by spectrally splitting the light by the hologram 5 incident on the color filter cells R, G and B of the corresponding color. Then, the utility is drastically improved. |
