An automotive hydrodynamic torque converter has a fluid-filled housing with pump wheel, turbine wheel and a clutch bridge with clutch piston. The housing interior is sub-divided into a first chamber with turbine wheel by the clutch piston. Fluid is supplied by a tube to the first chamber from which is may be drawn. A second fluid pipe supplies the second chamber, from which it may be drawn. Fluid may be drawn from each chamber via the drain tube and transferred to the other chamber.
