The present invention relates to a cable reel, in particular a reel for an electronic cable, which permits rapid and simple unreeling of the cable, retention of the cable in operating position, and rapid and controlled motorized retraction of the cable, without spinning of the reel. The cable reel comprises a quantity of electronic cable, which is wound on a reel having a central axial aperture extending there through and driven by means of a motor with worm drive gearing. A slip ring capsule, which provides positive and continual communications contact, is provided within the aperture of said reel. Another slip ring assembly, separately located from the slip ring capsule, is used to transmit power. <IMAGE>
