A security device for locking a portable article, such as a facsimile machine, printer, scanner, or other computer peripheral, to a support surface, such as a desktop. In a first embodiment of the invention, the device comprises a bracket mounted on the support surface which may be lockably coupled to a mating block affixed to the portable article. In an alternative embodiment, the device comprises a cage enclosing the portable article which may be lockably secured to the bracket.
