A method of applying chemical compositions to plant life such as, but not limited to, lawns, shrubs, plants, trees and gardens is disclosed and includes the use of an irrigation system having a main water delivery line for directing a pressurized flow of water from a water source to one or more water discharge devices. An air tight chamber is filled with a predetermined amount of a dry water-soluble or liquid chemical composition such as a fertilizer composition and/or a pesticide composition. A water input line connects from a first location along the main water delivery line to the chamber and a water output line connects from the chamber to a second location along the main water delivery line. The pressure of water flowing through the main water delivery line is higher at the first location than at the second location, causing a portion of the water flow to be diverted through the input line, into the chamber, through the output line, and feeding back into the main water delivery line at the second location. As water flows through the chamber, the dry water-soluble chemical composition therein gradually dissolves to produce a chemical solution. The chemical solution flows through the output line and into the main water delivery line so that the chemical solution mixes with water flowing through the main water delivery line. The mixture is then directed to the one or more discharge devices for application on to the plant life.
