The present invention relates to optically active 3-[(2-piperazinylphenyl)methyl]-1-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-2-pyrrolidinones and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, to processes for their preparation, to isotopically-labeled analogs thereof, to pharmaceutical compositions comprising them and to their medicinal use as selective antagonists of the 5-HT1D receptor. The compounds of the invention are useful in treating depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and diseases, disorders or conditions for which a 5-HT1D receptor selective antagonist is therapeutically indicated.
