1277630 Ethylene propylene butadiene terpolymerization catalyst MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 14 Jan 1970 [15 Jan 1969 7 Feb 1969] 1925/70 Heading C3P Ethylene, propylene and 1,3-butadiene are terpolymerized in the presence of an aromatic hydrocarbon solution of a catalyst comprising (a) a hydrocarbon-soluble vanadium compound, (b) the product of reaction between a dialkyl aluminium monohalide and water or a bis-(trialkyltin)-oxide in a molar ratio of 2 : 1, and (c) an alkyl aluminium halide. The components (b) and (c) may be formed by a single reaction of the ingredients in quantities sufficient to leave excess aluminium compound to act as component (c). The reaction product (b) may contain Al-O-Al and/or Al-OH bonds. In examples, (a) is vanadium trisacetylacetonate, (b) is Et 2 AlCl-H 2 O or [(n-Bu) 3 Sn] 2 O and (c) is Et 2 AlCl, present as excess reactant from (b) or as an additional ingredient.
