NEW MATERIAL:A phthalocyanine compound of formula I [wherein either X or Y is SR (wherein R is a 1-20C linear alkyl) and the other is H, and M is a metal atom]. EXAMPLE:Tetrakisoctylthio metal phthalocyanine. USE:A phthalocyanine compound which is useful in the fields of optical recording, electrophotography, etc., can be obtained efficiently, has absorptions in the near-infrared region, and excels in solubility. PREPARATION:A 4-alkylthiophthalonitrile of formula III, obtained by reacting 4-nitrophthalonitrile of formula II with R-SH (wherein R is an alkyl) in an aprotic polar solvent by using an organic base such as an inorganic base or a tert. amine compounds, is condensed with a metal salt or a metal oxide by heating. |
