PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating electric machine which can economically and surely detect a fault in various power systems. SOLUTION: An alternator for a vehicle includes an armature in which a coil 33 for detecting a degree of unbalance is wound to each slot of an armature iron core. When the alternator for a vehicle normally generates electric power, a balanced symmetrical multi-phase AC magnetic flux is generated. Therefore, a combined value of a basic wave magnetic flux linking with the coil 33 for detecting the degree of unbalance becomes zero, but if a fault occurs in the power generation, this combined value does not become zero and a voltage appearing on an output terminal 34 of the coil 33 for detecting the degree of unbalance becomes larger. An alarm generating circuit 71 detects the fault in the power generation and outputs an alarm signal when a voltage level of the output terminal 34 becomes large. |
