A flexible pegboard laminate comprises a thermoplastic plastics sheet 11 having perforated embossments 13 on one side of the sheet, the opposite face of the sheet remote from the embossments being laminated to a backing sheet 12, the outer face of which is coated with a water-activatable adhesive material 15, and the-inner face of which is attached to the said opposite face of the sheet by an epoxy adhesive 17 cured under such conditions as not to prevent the product being flexible. In one method of making the laminate the inner face of the backing sheet 12 is coated with a wet film of uncured epoxy adhesive in solution in an organic solvent comprising a hydrocarbon solvent and from 5 to 40% base on the total weight of the solvent of an active solvent for the material of the plastics sheet 11, pressing the sheet 11 against the wet film coated face of the sheet 12 to form a weakly bonded laminate, and maintaining the sheet 11 in contact with the coating of epoxy adhesive while the adhesive cures. The sheet 11 may be P.V.C. or a resin containing at least 85% by weight of vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride, the balance being vinyl acetate or stearate ethyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, maleic acid, monobutyl maleate or dibutyl maleate. The sheet 12 may be of paper coated with polyvinyl acetate as water activatable adhesive and having a coating 16 of P.V.C. between it and the epoxy adhesive 17, which latter may comprise a polyepoxide cured with an amine curing agent therefor. The active solvent of the adhesive solution may be a ketone containing 2-6 carbon atoms, or ethyl acetate, butyl propionate, chlorobenzene, tetrahydropyran, tetrahydrofuran, 2-nitropropane, isophorone, cyclohexanone, dimethyl formamide, acetonitrile, propylene carbonate or dimethyl sulphoxide. The laminate may be made by coating the backing sheet 12 with layers 15 and 16 and drying them, coating with the adhesive solution, applying the coated sheet to the sheet 11 between platens 21, 22, pressing, removing the assembly from the platens, stacking a plurality of assemblies, and allowing the adhesive to cure. |
