<p>The appts. is pneumatic and automatic and is controlled by a simple two-way push button. A movable chamber holds the bottle of drip liq. and this chamber is hermetically coupled to the fixed part of the appts. where the drip needle is housed. Another, and smaller chamber contains the drop-by-drop sight glass, which is part of the grip-feed tube. The rate of the drip is regulated manually by a tap with a compressive action. To allow the liq. to flow into the patient, inside the compression chamber, the pressure inside and outside the bottle should be equal to that inside the chamber contg. the patient. This is achieved by passing gas from the compression chamber through a transparent, flexible tube, or umbilical cord. The drip tube passes through the latter until it reaches the patient. In the appts., the bottle of drip liq. can be changed, and drugs may be injected without any need for decompressing the patient.</p> |
