The coating makes dirt traces, dents and other unsightly spots on the surfaces of venetian blinds, roller shutters or roller blinds less conspicuous. It also reduces the noise created by opening and closing venetian blinds or rolled shutters, and improves weather resistance. A surface layer is applied to the front and/or rear side of the slats, covering them except on their edges. After assembly but before installation, coloured or embossed paper or foil sheet is applied by gluing, welding or use of self-adhesive foil. They may be cut from a sheet matching the size of the blind.
