PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the safe cleaning of blood or its component with an extremely simple apparatus at a low running cost without causing the danger of residual toxicity and dispensing with the high-level management for ensuring the safety in the production, storage and use of substances. SOLUTION: Blood or its component is cleaned by bringing viruses in blood or its component into contact with singlet oxygen, thereby selectively exterminating or inactivating the viruses. A vaccine is prepared by bringing the viruses into contact with singlet oxygen to exterminate or inactivate the viruses and reacting the product with the blood or its component to obtain an antigen.
