The invention relates to a process for improving the cold-flow properties of fue l oils having a sulfur content of less than 500 ppm and a content of n-paraffins having a chain length of C18 or longer of at least 8% by weight, comprising adding an add itive comprising a mixture of either A1) from 15 to 50% by weight of a copolymer of lower olefins and vinyl esters, comprising a) up to 96 mol% of divalent structural units of the formula 1 - CH2 - CR1R2 - 1 in which R1 and R2, independently of one another, are hydrogen or methyl, and b) from 4 to 10 mol% of divalent structural units of the formula 2 <IMG> in which R3 is saturated, branched C6-C16-alkyl which contains a tertiary carbon atom, or, alternatively to A1) A2) from 15 to 50% by weight of a copolymer of lower olefins and vinyl esters, comprising a) up to 96 mol% of divalent structural units of the formula 1
