Embodiments of systems, apparatuses, and methods for performing a range mapping instruction in a computer processor are described. In some embodiments, the execution of a range mapping instruction maps a data element having a source data range to a destination data element having a destination data range and storage of the of the destination data element.

1. A method of performing range mapping instruction in a computer processor, comprising:
fetching the range mapping instruction, wherein the range mapping instruction includes a destination operand, a source operand, and a range mapping indication; decoding the fetched range mapping instruction; executing the decoded range mapping instruction to perform a mapping of a first data element of the source operand having a source data range to a second data element having a destination data range, wherein the destination data range is at least as large as the source data range, and wherein the source data range and destination data range are continuous; and storing the second data element into a destination of the destination operand.
