A tool for the application of screws 3, which screws serve to fix a material layer 1 relative to the base, the tool has two parts 12, 13 which can move axially relative to each other, the first 12 of which can be rotated and incorporates a means of rotation-fast connection with a screw. The second part 13 has a holding device 19 for bearing against the material layer. The tool has a locking device 20 which, in an active position, prevents the first part 12, and thereby its attached screw 3, moving axially relative to the second part in the direction of the material layer when the second part's 13 holding device 19 bears against the material layer, while in an inactive position allows the first part 12 and its attached screw 3 to move axially relative to the second part. The tool, with locking device 20 in its active position, can be used, by means of the screw's thread, to upset an edge section of a hole in the material layer in order to form a raised portion 9 around the hole. With locking device 20 in its inactive position, the tool can be used for driving in the screw relative to the base material 2 during the relative axial movement between the parts 12, 13. <IMAGE> |
