The method for treating material (1) (rolling scale, chips, metal scrap etc.) contaminated by oil/grease and/or other organic/chemical substances is characterised by the following features (a) the material in a heating zone (16) under reducing atmosphere is heated by indirect heat supply to a temp. which though less than the m.pt. of the material is slightly above the boiling temp. of the contaminant with the highest b.pt., (b) the resultant gases are drawn off, (c) condensation of the gases produced in the heating zone is prevented by means of a non-oxidising transport gas. The appts. is characterised by the presence of a treatment chamber (3) with a heating zone (16), an inlet for a transport gas (5), an outlet for resultant gases (7), as well as material loading and unloading devices (2,6).</p> |
